Transit riders donate enough for 3,000 meals on The T’s annual Ride for a Can Day

FORT WORTH (July 25, 2008) Passengers carried thousands of cans onto buses during The T’s annual Ride for a Can Day on July 24, to benefit Tarrant Area Food Bank.
Today a T bus, packed with canned and boxed foods, delivered the equivalent of 3,300 meals to the Food Bank that was collected in exchange for free transit rides.
One canned good could be redeemed for a one-way bus fare. Two canned goods earned a free local “Day Pass” which could be used for unlimited rides that day on The T’s buses and Trinity Railway Express (TRE) within Tarrant County.
“We appreciate the generosity of The T’s riders for this important cause,” said Dick Ruddell, president of The T.
T employees also joined the donation effort by bringing canned goods to work. Canned goods were collected at T offices, at The Intermodal Transportation Center (ITC) and on all buses and trolleys.
"At this time, the Food Bank is particularly low in canned goods and is very grateful to the riders of The T and The T’s employees for sponsoring Ride for a Can,” said Bo Soderbergh, executive director of Tarrant Area Food Bank.
